Dizziness is a multifactorial complaint commonly encountered in manual therapy practice. While vestibular and cervical causes are routinely assessed, the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and associated neuromuscular systems are often under-recognized contributors.
This webinar presents a four-pillar clinical framework, Understanding, Assessing, Treating, and Managing, to support manual therapists in identifying when TMJ dysfunction may be contributing to dizziness. Participants will explore shared anatomical and neurological pathways, learn practical screening and assessment strategies, recognize red flags and contraindications, and understand how TMJ-focused interventions can complement vestibular and cervical care within an inter-professional model.
Webinar Overview & Agenda
- Introduction: Why a Framework Matters
- Understanding TMJ & Dizziness
- Assessing: Identifying When Dizziness May Be TMJ-Related
- Subjective Assessment – What to Listen For
- Objective Screening & Physical Assessment
- Red Flags & Contraindications
- Treating: The Role of TMJ Interventions
- Managing Long-Term Outcomes, Expectations, and Collaboration
Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Understand the anatomical and neurological relationships between the TMJ, cervical spine, and vestibular system
- Assess key subjective and objective indicators suggesting a TMJ contribution to dizziness
- Treat TMJ dysfunction within physiotherapy scope as part of a broader care plan
- Manage patient expectations, contraindications, and interprofessional referral pathways for TMJ-related dizziness
